General Event Policies

Event & Hotel Rules

Effective for all attendees, presenters, volunteers, and staff throughout Grand Strand Affair

Grand Strand Affair is committed to providing a consensual, respectful, inclusive, and safe environment. These rules apply throughout the event, including event spaces, classes, dungeons, hallways, social spaces, and shared hotel areas.

1. Age of Attendance

This is an 19+ event.

Government-issued ID will be checked to confirm age.

2. Consent

All activity must be consensual, both inside and outside play areas.

  • Obtain clear, explicit consent before touching someone or their belongings.
  • Consent may be withdrawn at any time, for any reason, or without reason, including during a scene.
  • Consent to one activity does not mean consent to another.
  • Understand the risks involved in what you agree to. If unsure, ask questions or do your research.
  • Do not assume someone's status, experience, or reputation makes them automatically trustworthy.

3. Nudity, Dress & Shoes

Nudity is permitted only in the Main Dungeon, Rope Dungeon, and Concierge Dungeon.

Nudity may occur in classes only when classroom doors are closed.

Outside designated play/class areas, appropriate clothing and public decency standards apply.

Shoes must be worn in all general hotel spaces except during play or scenes.

Shoes that pose a puncture risk may not be worn on mats or other upholstered surfaces.

Use a towel, Chux pad, or other appropriate barrier between bare skin and shared event furniture.

4. Respect the Hotel & Venue

Grand Strand Affair is not a hotel takeover. Other hotel guests may not be attending the event.

Respect hotel staff, property, and other guests. Do not use hotel fixtures or furniture for unintended purposes or attach people, bondage, or equipment to unauthorized structures.

You may be held responsible for damage you cause. Keep shared spaces clean and dispose of trash promptly and properly.

5. Designated Play Areas & Shared Spaces

All play must take place in the Main Dungeon, Rope Dungeon, Concierge Dungeon, or your private hotel room.

Play is not permitted elsewhere, including hallways, elevators, the lobby, restaurants, bars, gym, pool, putting green, and other hotel shared spaces. Use them appropriately and respectfully.

6. Badges & Wristbands

Your badge and wristband must be worn at all times to access event spaces.

If either is lost, contact Customer Service immediately or Security after hours.

7. Lost & Found

  • Vanilla items: Hotel Front Desk
  • Kinky items: Grand Strand Customer Service Desk located at Event Registration

8. Animals

Animals and pets are not permitted in the convention space, except for ADA-required service animals.

Animals and pets are permitted in the hotel, but must be kept out of all event areas.  Additional hotel fees may apply.

Please see our Service Animal Policy.

9. Phones, Photography & Recording

Photography (outside of designated areas by a staff photographer), video recording, audio recording, and other electronic recording are prohibited at Grand Strand Affair.  Meta glasses, smart glasses, wearable cameras, and similar recording-capable devices are not permitted anywhere in the convention space.

Violations may result in removal from the event.

10. Reporting Concerns

Report consent violations, safety concerns, harassment, or rule violations as soon as possible after an occurrence.

Speak with a:

  • Grand Strand Affair Staff member
  • Dungeon Monitor (DM)
  • IRT (Incident Response Team) Committee member

Outside the event, email grandstrandaffair@gmail.com. Reports will be handled with discretion.

11. Respect Others

Treat attendees, presenters, volunteers, staff, hotel employees, and guests with respect.

Harassment, bullying, deliberate misgendering, aggressive behavior, or conduct intended to make others feel unsafe or unwelcome will not be tolerated.

Respect others' identities, boundaries, privacy, and personal property.

12. Impairment & Intoxication

A visibly impaired person cannot provide meaningful consent.

Report concerns to Staff, a DM, or an IRT Committee member.

Intoxicants and intoxicated individuals are not permitted in the dungeon or any other designated play spaces.

13. Smoking, Drugs & Solicitation

Smoking and vaping are permitted only in designated areas.

Illegal drugs are prohibited under a zero-tolerance policy. This applies to marijuana in all forms, including smoking, vaping, and edibles, as South Carolina has not decriminalized marijuana.

Unauthorized vending, commercial solicitation, or selling goods or services is not permitted.  Sales are permitted by the hotel as well as approved vendors in vending and registration areas.

14. Privacy & Confidentiality

Do not share another person's identity, legal name, attendance, relationship status, kink interests, or personal information without permission.

Do not "out" another attendee.

15. Follow Staff & Emergency Instructions

Follow reasonable instructions from Grand Strand Affair Staff, Security, Safety personnel, and Dungeon Monitors.

During an emergency or evacuation, remain calm, follow reasonable instructions, and exit promptly. Do not delay evacuation to collect belongings.

16. Violations & Event Authority

Violations may result in intervention, removal from an activity or event area, or removal from Grand Strand Affair. Removal due to rule-breaking behavior will not be eligible for any refunds.

Event management reserves the right to address safety and conduct concerns as appropriate.

Grand Strand Affair

Dungeon & Play Space Rules

The dungeon is a shared space. Help keep it safe, clean, respectful, and accessible to everyone.

You are responsible for inspecting equipment before use and ensuring it is safe and appropriate for your scene.

1. RED Means Stop

The house safe word is RED. If RED is used, or someone otherwise signals that they need to stop, stop the scene immediately and safely release restraints as appropriate.

Saying “safeword” is a request for immediate external assistance when other safewords or aspects of a scene have gone wrong.

If a participant cannot verbally communicate, establish an alternative safe signal before play begins and share it with a DM.

2. Follow DM & Medical Team Instructions

Dungeon Monitors (DMs) and the Medical Team are responsible for safety in the play spaces.

If instructed to stop, pause, move, or change your scene, comply immediately. Their decisions are final.

3. Consent & Scene Safety

All play must be consensual and appropriately negotiated. Know the risks involved, communicate relevant safety concerns, and do not play with someone who is visibly impaired or unable to provide meaningful consent.

Do not interrupt, interfere with, or join another person's scene without permission. Maintain a safe distance and avoid unnecessary disruption.

4. Equipment, Cleanup & Shared Space

  • Inspect equipment before use and report damaged or unsafe equipment to a DM.
  • Do not move, modify, or attach equipment without approval.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and surrounding surfaces after every scene.
  • Use appropriate barriers such as Chux pads, towels, or plastic barriers. Do not place bare genitals or buttocks directly on shared equipment.
  • Be considerate of others waiting to use equipment. DMs may enforce time limits on scenes over 90 minutes.
  • No food, non-water beverages, or glass containers in the indoor play space.

5. Notify a DM Before Certain Scenes

Speak with a DM before beginning any scene that may appear extreme, require significant space or unusual equipment, create concern, or require special safety planning.

Examples of scenes that require DM approval:

  • Combined sensory deprivation, gagging, and bondage
  • Consensual non-consent scenes
  • Takedowns or scenes involving significant movement
  • Messy scenes
  • Large-group scenes of more than 4 people
  • Any scene requiring additional safety planning

Approval may include requirements for location, equipment, scheduling, cleanup, or staff monitoring.

Restricted & Prohibited Activities

6. Fire Play

Fire play and open flames are prohibited due to Myrtle Beach laws.

7. Electrical Play

Electrical play is prohibited above the shoulders or where current may cross the heart.
